Whisky Investment UK: A Commitment to Sustainability and Quality
Whisky Investment UK entered the world of cask whisky through its parent company Silvercrest, which has long collaborated with breweries, distilleries, and storage warehouses to reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and enhance energy efficiency.
Building on this foundation, it was a natural progression to offer our investment clients the exceptional products of our partners. Cask whisky, then as now, has proven to be a reliable and rewarding investment opportunity.
However, we set a high standard; the casks we offered needed to come from environmentally conscious distilleries and be stored in equally sustainable bonded warehouses. Meeting this criterion was no small feat, particularly given the traditional use of peat in whisky production. That is why we are thrilled to see our vision aligning with industry progress, exemplified by Glenturret Distillery – a pioneer in sustainable whisky-making.
Glenturret’s Green Transition
One of Scotland’s oldest working distilleries, Glenturret has announced plans to phase out the use of peat in its whisky production, with a target to complete this transition as early as 2025.
By 2026, the distillery aims to remove peated expressions entirely from its range, marking a bold step toward a sustainable future.
While Glenturret has historically been known for its unpeated whiskies, the introduction of its Ruadh Maor peated expression in 2009 added a new dimension to its offerings.
Despite this success, the decision to move away from peat-smoked releases reflects a deliberate shift toward a more sustainable “house style,” balancing quality and environmental responsibility.
As Ian Renwick, Glenturret’s Distillery Director, explains:
“We honour the environment as deeply as we do our craft, and that is the mantra for The Glenturret of the future.”
This commitment resonates deeply with Whisky Investment UK, allowing us to proudly offer Glenturret’s products to our growing audience of eco-conscious investors.
A Commitment to Responsible Whisky Production
Glenturret’s efforts are supported by significant investments in sustainable practices:
- A 27% reduction in annual energy consumption.
- A decrease in process waste by 1,000 tonnes per year.
- A saving of 1,000,000 litres of water annually.
“As responsible distillers, we seek out not only the best materials but also the most considered practices when crafting our whiskies,” Renwick adds.
Darren Hughes, Head of Stock and Logistics at Whisky Investment UK, echoes this sentiment: “The Glenturret distillery has been successful for many years in its Perthshire home, and it was a shame we were not often prepared to offer cask whisky when it became available. We now look forward to including their spirits when we are lucky enough to obtain them”.
